왕년에목포축제

왕년에목포축제 (2019)

A retro themed festival held in Mokpo in September 2019, where I was required to create the logo for the event and the large banner to be stuck around the event.

There is a legend in Mokpo that says that a man who was very studious preparing to be a warrior fell in love with three women and began to slack off. He decided that he would not see them until he conquered what he wanted. The three women died while waiting for him and then reincarnated as swans. However, the man did not know that the swans were his loved ones and shot them once he saw them. At the spot of the sea where the three swans fell into surged three mountains, and thus they are called ‘삼학도’ (Sam Hak Do, Three Swan Island).

First Proposal

As the festival’s theme was centered around ‘retro,’ we wanted to use some high contrast tones. The outcome looked good but a more kitschy and catchy, to target the people in their 20s.

Final

The selected design showed only the heads of the cranes, and them dressed up in retro fashion items. The clouds were kept because they added to the atmosphere. The red was chosen to contrast with the turquoise in the background.

The logo was used in poster and pamphlets, as well as banners and created into pin badges which were handed out during the event. From this, I developed them into 3 characters named 학 핰 핡 (which all sound like hak which is crane).

When developing on them, the main focus was in maintaining them gender neutral (although the legend says that they were females) so that they can dress up freely and be used in different areas.
